Serving Soul!

Well, the title says it all. Who was the first artist you can remember developing a crush on? You know...poster on the wall, butterflies...all of that. And BE HONEST. After I write this, I'll probably regret it, but it was what it was.

OK. My simultaneous musical crushes were brothers David and Shaun Cassidy (Partridge Family re-runs and The Hardy Boys)- slight preference for Shaun. Yeah, yeah...I know they aren't exactly soulful, but hell, I grew up in Canada over 3 decades ago. My tastes have since matured, but these two will always hold a special place in my heart.

Deal. I've already come to terms with my questionable past.

Hmm, my first real, no holes barred musical crush was none other than MC Lyte when she first came out. A very close second was Shelia E.. A sexy woman who could sing and rock gthe drums too! HEAVEN.

Now, my real musical love of my life back then and still is to this day is SADE. I fell madly in love with her when she first arrived to the US via a musical artist appearance on Saturday Night Live back in like 1985. She came out in noth more than a white fitted dress, her sexy black hair in a long ponytail and sang 'Is It a Crime.' That is when I fell in love with her and my affair with her still transcend all others to this day.

Thereis no cure for me; still to this day I find both MC Lyte and SADE sexy as hell and no, I am NOT going to rehab - no, no, no... LOL

Randy Jackson and Foster Sylvers. I know I am dating myself. I was in elementary school. We had the album, and everyday I would stare at the cover and dream of running into to Foster at Von's. We heard that they lived in LA like us, so in my 8 year old mind, running into at the market, which is the only place I ever saw my other friends outside of school, was highly probable.

The Jacksons, lived in "The Valley", which apparently was also in Los Angeles, but since I didn't know where or what the Valley was, I didn't think I would see Randy. Then when I saw the picture of their house in Encino in Ebony magazine, I knew I wouldn't be seeing them at the store. Their house was huge and it had a tall, black gate which gave me the impression that they didn't get out much other than touring.

In case you forgot. Take a listen to, "Misdemeanor" and tell me it doesn't make you smile.

Phyllis Hyman was my first musical crush. When she sang Betcha By Golly Wow you couldn't tell me she wasn't singing about me.

So far, the boys are doing a little better...OK, alot better than the girls. At least their crushes are ones they can still have as grown men. What I find attractive now is a whole lot different from back then and I'm guessing that goes for you too, SPB.
