- Frustrated by the disproportionate promotion of negative images particularly in urban music and music videos; Images that unfortunately and increasingly degrades Black women. The vision to produce a better product instilled the discipline, purpose and necessary funds to birth, Gwynn Broadcasting, Inc, My Music – My Choice, a 501 C-3 Media Arts Agency and the "Positive Rhythms" Radio Show.
Gwynn Broadcasting, Inc. is an Internet based broadcasting company, committed to helping change the narrow and negative images that have often stereotyped people of color. Gwynn Broadcasting, Inc. streams “Positive Rhythms”, an adult contemporary urban music program that responds to a growing audience demand for musical entertainment without offensive lyrical content and images. Joelle was further able to combine her passion with music and broadcasting with her passion for community service by establishing the My Music-My Choice foundation. Established in 2004, The My Music-My Choice foundation, is a 501 C-3 media arts non-profit organization committed to the development and promotion of positive perceptions of African-Americans in music and other media forms. My Music – My Choice has been instrumental in developing pertinent community initiatives using music themes and showcasing artists that promote positive images of minorities to the mainstream. She sees music as powerful medium and desires to not only bring inspiration but effectuate positive change for the community through songs and service.
Under the vision of Joelle Gwynn to have music serve as a positive conduit for change, the My Music-My Choice foundation is presently producing an HIV Awareness CD entitled “Knowing is POSITIVE” to serve as an edu-tainment outreach tool to reach high risk target groups. Positive Lyrics Database - Need content please
I am starting an after school program. I need a list of old and contemporary songs, mostly hip hop and any contemporary music that have positive or inspirational lyrics that I could use as part of the students course book. Target Audience is elementary students, 3rd - 5th graders, mostly African- American. **But I also want to reach middle and high school students. Your help would be appreciated.
