It’s surprising that such a large voice, such mountainous potential, and captivating presence can come from someone as petite as this songstress. Sheena Murray demands attention with her sultry tunes influenced by R&B and Soul. She was shy as a child and often shared her dreams of being a singer to her family; like Whitney Houston, she would tell them. Born during the height of Whitney’s career, it was hard to not be influenced. Native to Jamaica, she migrated to the US at age 5. She began writing poetry at age 9, which led to songwriting, which then became another passion. She often first creates a melody in her head, then conjures up the words to accompany it, and brings the idea to her producers, then bourns musical magic. “Hooked”, her most familiar single, on the other hand was spontaneous. It was written while the track was being created and the rest is history. In High School, she started to break through her inhibitions, decided to let people peek into her world of artistic endeavors. Accepted into a performing arts program, she majored in theater instead of being a vocalist, performing in stage plays and musicals. Still, the passion for singing and music burned deeply. Out of school, she began networking, little by little forging her way through the music world. Upon graduation, she decided to jump feet first into a solo career after failed attempts with two female vocal groups. She quickly realized that she could carry her own on-stage and certainly had material to sing. She was in and out of studios, working with many producers and artists, trying to get her feet wet, trying to “make it happen”. She’s a Pisces, known to be big dreamer with artistic souls. In early 2008, Reservoir Nine Music Group in conjunction Nine Management, came along and offered to make her dream take flight. She enthusiastically accepted and the momentum builds everyday. Sheena Murray, from youth to adulthood, wrote a soundtrack to her life. Notes pump through her blood and escape through her mouth in melodic rifts and harmonious tunes. She prides herself in her writing ability, her ability to capture life through words. She talks of love, loss, and just the complex simplicities of our very existence. She sings and everyone listens as her messages are as impressionable as the beauty of her voice is captivating. Her commercially viable image and magnetic persona, compliment her classic sound. Longevity is what she hopes to achieve along with a wealth of respect by not only her peers but from her audience. “I’ll feed you music and you feed my drive” she says. She’s the total package; a beauty, a singer, a songwriter, and an entertainer. You need nothing more.
